In addition, the development of value chains in critical materials for lithium and copper, and for the production of green hydrogen in the country, benefits.

In the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chamber, the discussion of the Advanced Framework Agreement with the European Union (EU) continues.

In the instance, the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza, pointed out that, with the treaty, 99.6% of Chilean exports do not have tariffs.

In addition, the development of value chains in critical materials for lithium and copper, and for the production of green hydrogen in the country, benefits.

Advanced Macro Agreement with the European Union

The undersecretary pointed out that the treaty (which she describes as “last generation) “helps us with fundamental objectives for greater growth in Chile, also in greater inclusion, which is to shorten gender gaps, diversify the export basket, the participation of MSMEs, the growth of export services and investments.”

This opinion was shared by the former undersecretary of International Economic Relations of the second government of Sebastián Piñera, Rodrigo Yáñez, who explained the benefits of the treaty.

"The ratification of this agreement brings multiple benefits for companies and our citizens, since it significantly improves the conditions for different Chilean products that access this market of 500 million people, generating new opportunities for national exporters and contributing to the creation of employment,” said Yáñez.

Advances in trade agreements

In terms of investment, the agreement balances the right to regulate by the Chilean State with the protection of investments. For this, a new 'ad hoc' dispute resolution institutionality is created.

For the independent deputy of the socialist bench, Tomás de Rementería, the pact is an advance not only economically, but also in political, environmental, labor and gender matters.

While the senator of the Democratic Revolution, Juan Ignacio Latorre, called on the Government to “make an effort” pedagogically to explain these advances.

On the part of the old continent, the European Parliament approved this instrument on February 29, which modernizes the 2003 Association Agreements.
