Inflation in the US fell to 3.3% in May

In the fifth month of the year, the cost of food moderated its rise to 2.1% year-on-year, one tenth less, while the price of energy rose by 3.7%.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the United States slowed down its year-on-year increase by one tenth in the month of May, reaching 3.3%, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the country's Department of Labor.

In the fifth month of the year, the cost of food moderated its rise to 2.1% year-on-year, one tenth less, while the price of energy rose by 3.7%.

Thus, by excluding the impact of energy and food from the calculation, the core inflation rate moderated to 3.4% in May, compared to 3.6% year-on-year in the previous month.

In turn, in monthly terms, inflation remained stable in May, after an increase of 0.3% in April.

The inflation data, slightly better than expected by market consensus, is known hours before the meeting held this Wednesday by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the United States Federal Reserve (Fed).

In its previous conclave, the US central bank decided to maintain interest rates in the target range of 5.25% to 5.5% for the sixth consecutive meeting, the highest since January 2001.
