This was possible, mainly, due to the good performance of products such as coffee (65%), blueberries (110%), cocoa/derivatives (95%), lemon (86.7%) and avocado (28.7%).

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, Elizabeth Galdo, announced today that, in the period January to April 2024, Peruvian agricultural exports reached US$3,027 million, growing 8.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

This was possible, mainly, due to the good performance of products such as coffee (65%), blueberries (110%), cocoa/derivatives (95%), lemon (86.7%) and avocado (28.7%).

"Agroexports play a crucial role in the economic and social development of the country, contributing to the economic growth of Peru and the generation of employment," highlighted Elizabeth Galdo.

It is worth remembering that, in 2023, Peruvian agricultural exports registered a record value, reaching 141 markets, highlighting, among the most important, the United States (35% of the total) and the European Union (27% of the total). Among the main fruits shipped to the world, blueberries (US$ 1,701 million) and grapes (US$ 1,773 million) stand out, both records last year.

“In 2024, Peru would become the eighth world exporter of fruit this year. Only in the first four months of the year, fruit exports grew 3.9%. To achieve this positioning, Mincetur will continue to promote multi-sector coordination to provide companies with logistics and technological infrastructure, and thus increase their competitiveness by reducing logistics costs,” said Minister Elizabeth Galdo.

FOREIGN TRADE

According to figures from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Peru's trade in goods (exports and imports) grew by 2% during the first four months of 2024, reaching US$36,683 million.

“The export growth was mainly due to the greater exchange with Asian countries (6.5%) and the greater sale of gold (+55.4%), the second most important product that Peru exports (15% of the total) ”, revealed Minister Elizabeth Galdo.

When referring to commercial exchange with other countries, he said that Peru-China trade grew 1.5% due to greater imports; while trade with India increased 65%. Exchange with Japan also grew (19%) thanks to greater exports (25%), mainly of natural gas naphtha (117%) and tin (US$ 24 million).

Likewise, trade between Peru and Europe increased by 2%, and in the region, Peru-Andean Community exchange grew by 20%. In Mercosur, with the exception of Brazil (-21.5%), exchanges increased with Paraguay (62%), Uruguay (5.5%) and Argentina (0.1%).

In the first four months of 2024, various regions increased their exports. This is the case of Puno (170.5%), Huánuco (62.1%), Loreto (24.7%), Tacna (12.8%), La Libertad (10.1%), Madre de Dios (6 .6%), Ica (4.8%) and Moquegua (1.8%).

From January to April, 6,166 export companies were registered, a figure 6.4% higher than the previous year. Within the total, 31% export agricultural products (1,941) and 15% export minerals (944).
