Peru and China would close a double taxation agreement by the end of 2024

The Peruvian Minister of Economy, José Arista, says that they will also seek to open the Chinese market for Peruvian meat and agricultural products.

The Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, José Arista, reported today that the Andean country and China would be completing negotiations for a double taxation agreement at the end of this year.

“What are our advantages that we offer to this huge country (China)? Among the advantages is our institutional stability, in terms of standards. We have a free trade agreement (FTA) with them, which not only allows exporting or importing at a zero tariff rate, but also allows stability and security for investments," he said on TV Perú , the Peruvian state television channel. .

“There is also Peru's recognition of China as a market economy. And, thirdly, we will be signing a double taxation agreement with China, whose negotiations should be completed by the end of this year,” he added.

José Arista pointed out that, during the next trip (June 23 to 30, 2024) that an official delegation from Peru will make to China, headed by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Ángel, will also go. Manero, because the possibility of exporting Peruvian meat and agricultural products to the Chinese market will be sought.

“On this trip we are accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) because we want to include within the FTA the possibility of China importing meat and fruits, such as fresh grapes or pecans. That is what we want to do, for them to open their market to Peruvian production,” he stated.

“There are basically no tariff barriers in the world anymore, but most of the barriers are phytosanitary. That is why a team from Senasa is accompanying us to open the market for agricultural production,” he added.

The minister said that external markets are quite demanding, which is why Peru has to live up to international demands.

“That is why when we go to those large agricultural production centers that we have, they are very demanding in terms of health,” he explained.

APEC COOPERATION

Regarding the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), José Arista highlighted that it is a space that puts Peru in the showcase in the eyes of the world's largest investors.

“At the Latin American level, and it is something to be proud of, in APEC there are Chile and Peru, and then we jump to Mexico, the United States and Canada. The other countries are not within this block,” he said.
