The virtual president-elect of Mexico announced Marcelo Ebrard, Alicia Bárcena, Ernestina Godoy, Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez, Juan Ramón de la Fuente and Julio Berdegué, as the first secretaries of the next administration.
The elected president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, presented this Thursday morning six secretaries of her cabinet, which will take office as of October 1.
In an event at the Interactive Museum of Economics (MIDE), Dr. Sheinbaum announced Marcelo Ebrard as her Secretary of Economy, Rosaura Ruíz Gutiérrez as Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, and Juan Ramón de la Fuente as her Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena as Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources, Julio Berdegué as Secretary of Agriculture and Ernestina Godoy as her Legal Counsel.
"They are first-class women and men, I feel very honored that they have agreed to be part of the second floor of the transformation," said Sheinbaum Pardo during the presentation of the next federal government officials.
Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, after losing Morena's presidential candidacy to Sheinbaum, will now be part of the president-elect's cabinet in the position of Secretary of Economy. During the mandate of Andrés Manuel López Obrador he served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Ebrard Casaubón was Head of Government of Mexico City in 2006, a position he held until 2012. One of his emblematic projects was the creation of Line 12 of the Metro.
During the conference Ebrard said that the task of the new cabinet is to create the second floor of the fourth transformation.
He also committed to consolidating the fourth transformation and that, where appropriate, the main orientation is that shared prosperity has favorable conditions.
"Mexico has many conditions in its favor. The first, we have... the best economic results for half a cycle," commented Ebrard Casaubón.
In addition, he indicated that there are all the possibilities thanks to the trade agreements that the country has, the growth of the nation as the main partner of the United States of America
For his part, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, former rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, joins the presidential cabinet with the position of Secretary of Foreign Affairs. In 2018, he was appointed by President López Obrador as Mexico's representative to the United Nations. United.
He was also president of the National Academies of Medicine and the Mexican Academies of Sciences.
While Julio Berdegué Sacristán will hold the position of Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, he has a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Arizona, and a master's degree in Agronomy from the University of California.
He was coordinator of the Working Group on Territorial Development and Cohesion that brings together 12 applied research projects and programs to date.
The president-elect announced the creation of the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation. It will be led by Rosaura Ruíz Gutiérrez. She has a degree, master's degree and doctorate in biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and has postdoctoral studies at the University of California.
For her part, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra will be Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources. Bárcena has held multiple positions in international organizations and has extensive experience as a diplomat. She has a degree in biology from UNAM and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.
The participation of Ernestina Godoy Ramos as Legal Counsel of Claudia Sheinbaum's administration was also announced; Godoy is a lawyer from UNAM. In public administration he has served as head of the Attorney General's Office (previously PGJ).
Until now the only confirmed appointment was that of Rogelio Ramírez de la O, who will remain at the head of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).

Reaction of the Mexican peso to the announcement
Before Sheinbaum Pardo presented six of the members of his cabinet at the beginning of the next government, the Mexican peso, which had been operating in positive territory since the beginning of the session and with attention to the announcement, cut its advance slightly from 18.40 to 18.42 units per dollar.
