The iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) exchange-traded fund begins trading in the Chilean market, with the aim of facilitating local investors' access to digital assets.

In a milestone for the Chilean capital market, the exchange-traded fund (ETF) that replicates the behavior of BlackRock's Bitcoin, iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), begins trading today Thursday on the Santiago Stock Exchange, which is part of nuam exchange , a regional holding company that brings together the local stock market with those of Lima and Colombia.

This incorporation facilitates local investors' access to a new underlying asset. The operation, coordinated by Bci Corredores de Bolsa, was celebrated with the traditional bell ringing of the Santiago Stock Exchange, an event that was attended by representatives of BlackRock, nuam exchange , Bci Corredores de Bolsa and clients of the company.

BlackRock's IBIT seeks to track the price performance of Bitcoin and its technology is backed by the same institutional-grade risk management expertise used for the company's 1,300 iShares ETFs.

“This launch fills us with pride, as it is in line with the long history of innovation driven by BlackRock in the financial markets. Now, investors in Chile will have an accessible and efficient digital asset to include in their portfolios, backed by the extensive experience in risk management that our iShares ETFs have,” said the Country Head of BlackRock Chile, Silvia Fernández.

For his part, Patricio Rojas, General Manager of the Santiago Stock Exchange, highlighted “with the arrival of BlackRock's iShare Bitcoin Trust, we are making important progress in the diversification of products available for our market. Today, both as the country's main stock market and as an integral part of nuam exchange, we are committed to facilitating access to cutting-edge investment instruments, as well as promoting a broader and more dynamic market for our participants."

"At Bci Corredor de Bolsa, our commitment to BlackRock and the Santiago Stock Exchange focuses on expanding our access to foreign securities, providing our clients the opportunity to participate in global markets in a safe, comprehensive and diversified manner. Our goal is to continue being leaders in the market, offering investment opportunities that maximize value for our clients through different asset classes," said the Research and Strategy Manager of Bci Corredor de Bolsa, Rosario Miquel.

IBIT has established itself as the world's largest Bitcoin ETF with over $20 billion in assets since it began trading in January 2024, and was the fastest ETF to reach $10 billion in assets in history.
