The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, has appointed Antonio Goncalves Savinovich as the new Minister of Energy and Mines, replacing Roberto Luque, who had been appointed on an interim basis within the framework of the exceptional measures undertaken by the Ecuadorian authorities to confront to the energy crisis that has affected the country for months.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines itself has confirmed the news on its official social media profile, where it has classified Goncalves as an "expert in successfully leading large teams" and has recalled his leadership in the "comprehensive monitoring of the portfolio" and his time as head of operations of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Luque assumed the Energy portfolio on an interim basis in mid-April, replacing Andrea Arrobo, who was dismissed after allegedly intentionally hiding relevant information about the operation of the electrical system and the blackouts that the South American nation was then suffering.

Luque himself has published a message on his social networks in which he has attached a video with the new minister and has assured that "as announced, this week there have been developments in the energy sector." "I am pleased to introduce you to the new Minister of Energy and Mines: Antonio Goncalves," he said.
