The Gravitaí project is part of the US$ 1,292 million investment already announced by General Motors for Brazil.

The president of General Motors South America, Santiago Chamorro, announced that the company will invest R$ 1.2 billion (US$ 221 million) in the Gravataí-RS industrial complex.

The amount will be used for the production of a new Chevrolet vehicle in a segment not yet explored by the brand in the country.

This is one of the actions of the first phase of the R$ 7,000 million (US$ 1,292 million) package that will be applied from 2024 to 2028, marking the period of greatest transformation of the company in Brazil.

"This new car will be launched in 2026 in Brazil and subsequently exported to the region, with the purpose of expanding the Chevrolet line. The choice of Gravataí is strategic as it is a factory prepared for high volume production and reinforces our commitment to the State of Rio Grande do Sul," explains Chamorro.

Investments in the Gaucho industrial complex also benefit the Onix and Onix Plus models, which are already produced there.

The unprecedented product comes to meet a growing consumer demand in relation to style, energy efficiency and technology.

All this with the reliability and prestige of the Chevrolet brand, which has a wide national network of dealerships, in addition to the OnStar platform, which offers security and emergency services and a unique connectivity experience.

This first phase of GM's new investment cycle comes to crown the start of the company's centenary celebrations in Brazil, which will take place in 2025.

Throughout this period, the company will promote the complete renewal of the vehicle portfolio, developing innovative and personalized technologies for the local market, in addition to the creation of new businesses.

24 years and 4.7 million units produced

The GM factory in Gravataí began its activities on July 20, 2000 and has already produced more than 4.7 million units.

In addition to having been the company's first unit in Brazil outside the State of São Paulo, it globally inaugurated the concept of industrial condominium, bringing together the main suppliers, who are strategically positioned to optimize the production process.

Notably, the factory has also been recognized for its sustainable practices. Well, it achieved the Zero Aterro certification, whose compliance requires that all materials be recycled, reused or co-processed.

Regarding its energy efficiency, Gravataí has ISO 9,001, ISO 14,001 and ISO 50,001 certifications, which attest to correct conduct in relation to the environment.
