Likewise, the logistics startup seeks to significantly expand its presence in Mexico, in order to triple its market share in the next two years.
Chazki, the Peruvian startup specialized in transportation and delivery services for e-commerce and retail , announced its merger with Lok, a Mexican startup that seeks to build one of the largest smart locker delivery networks in Latin America.
This strategic alliance aims to consolidate Chazki's position as an important player in the region's logistics service and significantly expand its presence in Mexico, in order to triple its market share in the next two years.
With this merger, Chazki places its out-of- home / OOH delivery point strategy as a priority in its growth plan.
By integrating Lok's infrastructure and network, customers can now receive and return packages at smart lockers conveniently located near their homes, offices or points of interest such as supermarkets and pharmacies.
This process not only reduces shipping costs, but also improves the shopping experience, allowing customers to retrieve packages at their convenience.
In addition, it contributes to sustainability by reducing emissions produced in the last mile, which today exceed 20% of carbon dioxide discharge in cities, according to the report “Climate Change: Emissions and sources of emissions.” Greenhouse Gases 2024” by BBVA Mexico.
Founded in 2014 in Peru, Chazki has grown to become one of the most recognized logistics companies in Latin America. It entered the Mexican market in 2018 and has since formed significant partnerships with major e-commerce players, department stores, retailers and consumer goods manufacturers.
Its main assets include an integrated platform to optimize end-to-end logistics processes, from filling orders in distribution centers to packaging and shipping them.
On the other hand, Lok, created in 2021, aims to develop the most convenient delivery service in Latin America.
Founded by Gonzalo Hevia Baillères, a Mexican businessman and investor, Lok raised US$5 million in its latest investment round, valuing the company at US$115 million.
Thanks to Lok, Chazki will now have a new OOH division, offering additional delivery and return options to online shoppers. This delivery model, which has revolutionized e-commerce in Europe, positions Chazki to become the leader in OOH logistics in Latin America.
"Lockers and delivery points can be strategically located in areas such as apartment buildings, residential areas, shopping centers and other busy locations. This network is especially useful in densely populated areas where recipients are not always home to receive packages, and also improves the returns process," commented Gonzalo Begazo, CEO and founder of Chazki.
The Mexican last mile market has experienced significant expansion in recent years, driven by the increase in e-commerce and demand for fast and efficient deliveries.
According to the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO), electronic commerce in Mexico reached a value of $528,000 million pesos (US$ 29,722 million) in 2022, an increase of 23% compared to the previous year. It is estimated that the first and last mile logistics market in Latin America is worth US$117 billion .
"We are very excited to build the future together. Latin America has a strong need and the necessary conditions for a more convenient way to receive and return online purchases. This model has transformed online shopping in Europe, driving the growth of e-commerce .
Currently, 41% of the total shipping cost is in the last mile, and deliveries typically require 2-3 attempts before the customer is home. This merger reinforces our commitment to becoming the most convenient delivery company in Latin America," commented Hevia Baillères, who joins the founding group of Chazki and will serve as executive president of the company.
