Controller of Banmédica Companies will sell its operations in Chile

The UnitedHealth Group Incorporated group confirmed that “it intends to sell its operations in South America, which would include operations in Chile, Peru and Colombia.” The American company had bought the Chilean Isapre in 2017 for US$ 2.8 billion.

Through an essential fact, Empresas Banmédica informed the Financial Market Commission (CMF) that its controller, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated, intends to sell its operations in South America.

The above would include Chile, Peru and Colombia.

Fernando Matthews, general manager of Banmédica SA, indicated in the essential fact that they learned that its final controller, UnitedHealth Group Incorporated, “a company incorporated in Delaware, United States and listed on the New York Stock Exchange,” communicated its results to the market. financials for the second quarter of 2024.

In this context, the Group confirmed that "it intends to sell its operations in South America, which would include operations in Chile, Peru and Colombia."

Matthews pointed out that, at the moment, they do not have more information or details about the aforementioned sales process.

Empresas Banmédica is made up of the isapre that bears the same name and VidaTres, plus Help, the BioBio, Santa María, Dávila and Ciudad del Mar clinics.

Two years ago, the American holding company demanded compensation from the State of Chile for changing the rules of the sector, after rulings by the Supreme Court regarding the table of factors. The American firm acquired the bulk of the shares of this health provider in 2017 for a value of US$2.8 billion.

In December of last year, meanwhile, VidaTres and Banmédica resigned from the Isapres Association, arguing that they considered the Government's proposal insufficient to compensate for the impact on finances of the application of the GES ruling.

“The decision responds to the need to vigorously reinforce from our Isapres that the solution proposed by the Government, and which is being discussed today in the Senate, in no case manages to recompose the deficit that is generated as of January 1 as a result of the application of the GES ruling, considering the reality of the different actors,” they stated.
