"The first brain in Colombia will be developed here," said Colombian President Gustavo Petro at the launch of the new Caldas School of Artificial Intelligence.
The Colombian government launched this Wednesday the 14th the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, the first in Latin America, which will operate at the University of Caldas and will begin receiving students next year.
The faculty will operate at the University of Caldas, whose headquarters are in Manizales, the departmental capital. A headquarters will be built with five laboratories, an auditorium, 13 classrooms, four special classrooms, seven computer classrooms, four study rooms, 95 cubicles, 98 offices and a cafeteria, among other spaces, for 1,228 students.
"The first brain in Colombia will be developed here. These programs will help us to install a series of machines for the production of everyday life," said Colombian President Gustavo Petro at the launch of the new Faculty of Artificial Intelligence.
The head of state said that the "first stone of an economic transformation of Colombia and Latin America is being laid. It is not just another faculty, it is a revolution that, if used well, will positively transform society."
The program, which will benefit more than 5,000 students in the first two years of its opening, will have an investment of 55 billion pesos (US$ 13.5 million).
As planned, the Faculty of AI at the University of Caldas will offer undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs in artificial intelligence and related disciplines, including a Specialization in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and a Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence, with an initial capacity of 20 students per program.
It will also offer programs for Technician in Data Debugging and Preprocessing for AI, Technology in Computer Systems for AI and the Professional undergraduate degree in AI Engineering.
