According to the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), this is due to a reduction in the planted area and an accumulated excess stock as of December 31 of last year.
Chile would be producing less wine, marking a downward trend, according to the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) in its 2024 Wine Production Report.
Total bulk wine production, excluding pisco wine, reached 930,653,773 litres, 15.6% less than the 1,103,031,478 produced in 2023.
According to the state agency, this is due to a reduction in the planted area and an excess stock accumulated as of December 31 of last year.
Wine production in Chile is declining
Bulk wines with a designation of origin fell by 12.9% (804,226,400 liters), while those without a designation of origin decreased even more, by 22.3% (to 116,703,528 liters). Regarding bulk wines made from pisco grape varieties, production decreased by 17.6% (58,313,158 liters).
By volume, Cabernet Sauvignon accounted for 32% of total production, followed by Sauvignon Blanc (16.7%), Merlot (11.1%), Chardonnay (11.1%), Carmenere (8.3%), and Syrah (4.9%).
SAG national director José Guajardo Reyes explained that the largest productions were concentrated in Maule, O'Higgins and the Metropolitan region (93.4% of the total), with the Maule region having approximately half of the country's production.
"This valuable report is prepared with information provided directly by producers, who submitted their production declarations electronically through the online system available on the institutional portal, which was enabled until July 22 of this year," Reyes added.
