The incentive is intended to support the implementation of new industrial biodiesel plants that use elements such as soy, cusi, totaí and other species of local origin as raw materials.

Following the promulgation of two supreme decrees this month, the Bolivian National Customs Office adapted its computer systems to ensure the application of zero tariffs on imports of wheat, wheat flour and machinery for the production of biodiesel.

Supreme Decrees 5195 and 5197 were published on August 14 of this year

The first of them, 5195, states in its sole article: “The Tariff Tax is deferred to zero percent until December 31, 2024, for the importation of wheat and wheat flour…”. This standard includes the different varieties of wheat seed, as well as the different varieties and combinations of wheat and rye flour.

The regulation covers different varieties of wheat for sowing. It also covers all wheat flours and mixtures of wheat flour with rye flour. All of them will now be imported with zero tariff.

Supreme Decree 5197, meanwhile, aims to gradually replace diesel imports. Its purpose is to establish incentives for the production of biodiesel for individuals and legal entities that implement industrial biodiesel plants.

The decree therefore aims to ensure that the country creates a sufficient stock of machines and mechanical devices with specific functions for the production of biodiesel and fuel supply.

This incentive is intended to support the implementation of new industrial biodiesel plants that use soybeans, cusi, totaí and other species of national origin as raw materials. This equipment will also be imported into the country with zero tariffs.

The National Customs Office already applies zero tariffs to these imports, thereby fulfilling its role in facilitating foreign trade and supporting national tax incentive policies.
