Mining production rose by 2.9%, due to increased activity in the three sectors that comprise it: metallic mining, non-metallic mining and energy resources, the former being the one that contributed the most to this index.

Industrial production in Chile recovered from the contraction recorded in June and, the following month, showed an increase of 3.6%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In its seasonally adjusted series (which corrects for the calendar effect), the Industrial Production Index (IPI) rose by 1.9% in July and by 2.4% compared to the same month in 2023.

The Manufacturing Production Index (IPMan) rose by 5.1% over twelve months, largely due to the 13.7% expansion in the production of food products, which had an impact of 4.024 percentage points (pp.) on the general indicator.

Regarding mining production (IPMin), there was also a rise of 2.9%, due to the greater activity in the three sectors that comprise it: metallic mining, non-metallic mining and energy resources, the first being the one that contributed the most to the IPMin (2,080 pp.).

Finally, “the Electricity, Gas and Water Production Index (IPEGA), meanwhile, grew 1.2% in twelve months, due to the greater activity recorded in electricity, which increased 3.1%, influencing 2,285 pp. in the variation of the index.”

The INE also released today the Trade Activity Index (IAC) at constant prices, whose year-on-year increase was 4.3% in the same month.

Wholesale trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles, was the division that contributed the most to the IAC (2,491 pp.), registering a year-on-year growth of 5.8%.

Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles rose 10.5% year-on-year and contributed 0.943 pp. to the general index, while Retail trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, had the lowest increase (1.8% year-on-year) and added 0.882 pp.

Retail trade in the Metropolitan region records its second month of deceleration in July

“The Supermarket Sales Index (ISUP) at constant prices decreased by 5.2% in twelve months; while the seasonally adjusted series corrected for calendar effects recorded a reduction of 3.3% compared to the previous month, and a year-on-year decrease of 3.3%,” the INE reported.

Finally, the Retail Electronic Trade Index (ICEM) at current prices rose 4.5% over twelve months, growing 4.3% so far this year, with electronic products, home equipment and electronics standing out as those that had the greatest impact.
