The Minister of Finance has embarked on his trip to the Old Continent today to take part in these meetings. For the first time, Paris will be the venue for this meeting, which will then move to London on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10.

This Friday, September 6, the 15th edition of Chile Day will be inaugurated in Paris and London, the biannual event organized by Inbest Chile and the Ministry of Finance, which seeks to promote and position the country's financial market as an investment destination through dialogue between Chilean businessmen and foreign investors. To attend this event, the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, began his trip to that continent today.

This Friday, for the first time, Chile Day will be held in Paris, and then the activity will move to London on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10.

In addition to his participation in Chile Day, Minister Marcel will have a packed agenda that includes talks with direct investors and bilateral meetings with senior executives. This Thursday, his trip began with meetings with the Chilean office and senior officials of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The first of these will refer to the measurement of trust that this organization carries out among the member countries, where he will talk with the director of Public Governance and head of the Division of Governance and Performance Indicators of the entity, Mónica Brezzi; the Policy Analyst, Division of Governance and Performance Indicators of the OECD, Mariana Prats; together with the new Chilean Ambassador to the OECD, Hernán Frigolett.

The minister will then hold talks with the Directorate of Trade and Agriculture (TAD), which will be attended by the Deputy Director of TAD, Julia Nielsen; the Senior Trade Policy Analyst of the OECD, Javier López; and Frigolett. Later, he will meet with the Director of Public Governance, Elsa Pilichowski.

At the end of the day, Minister Marcel will go to the Chilean Embassy in France, where he will meet with multiple authorities, companies, directors and sponsors of Inbest.

Paris Agenda

Regarding the first day of Chile Day, Minister Marcel will begin with a bilateral meeting with the Director General of the French Treasury, Bertrand Dumont, in which they will address the prospects for cooperation in Green Hydrogen, and will exchange the views of both regarding climate financing, expectations for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP) in 2029, and the new financial architecture. This meeting will be attended by the Head of the Department of Bilateral Affairs and International Business Development, Magali Cesana; and members of the team of coordinators of the Ministry of Finance.

"The option of extending Chile Day to Paris and London arose from the proposals made by investors themselves - particularly those based in France - because the changes generated by Brexit have transformed Paris into a financial centre for the European Union. Therefore, there are not only French companies, but companies from all over Europe that are operating from Paris, and that means a forum that one would like to reach for what Chile Day seeks, which is to promote Chile, promote direct investment and financial investment in the country," stressed Minister Marcel.

For this reason, on Friday the minister will participate in a bilateral meeting with BNP, the largest bank in Europe and France, which will be attended by the Global Head of Official Institutions of the entity, Laurent Leveque; the Director of Sustainability of CIB and Global Markets worldwide, Constance Chalchat; and the Global Director of the transition to low carbon emissions, Severine Mateo. And, mid-day, he will lead a presentation within the framework of Chile Day in which he will speak about the stabilization of the Chilean economy, long-term growth and will highlight the comparative advantages of the country that could expand the productive base of the economy.

He will also hold three meetings with investors from different French firms that day. The first will be organised by Inbest and the second is a luncheon by Société Générale, respectively, which are expected to be attended by representatives of companies such as HSBC, Ivo Capital, Axa, Lazard, Airbus, EDF, Engie, Eramet, HIF, Veolia and representatives of Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Allianz Global Investors and the French asset management company Carmignac. Later he will lead a meeting with direct investors, which will include Bruno Charrade from Equans, Rosaline Corinthien from Engie, Philippe Delleur from Alstom, Jean-Christophe Puech from Total Energy H2, and Ruben Lopez from Mazars.

To close the day, the minister will give a talk at the Université Sciencies Po in the “60 minutes with” format organised by the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), whose dean Arancha González will be the host. In front of the students of this higher education and research institution, the Secretary of State will address the crisis of middle-class countries and answer questions.

It is worth remembering that the Chile Day panel "Stimulating investment and growth: accelerating permits and improving regulation" will be moderated by the former ambassador to the OECD and current coordinator of Economic Regulation at the Ministry of Finance, Francisco Saffie.

London Agenda

Meanwhile, on Monday, September 9, Minister Marcel's agenda will be marked by his attendance at the meeting "Growth and sustainable development: Natural capital and its value in the economy", which will take place at the Chilean Embassy in the United Kingdom and will address the way in which natural capital affects the country's development.

As for Chile Day, along with the presentation at the opening session, the Secretary of State will be part of a panel on Economic Growth and Tax Reform and will hold meetings with investors, including HSBC, one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world.

And just like in Paris, Marcel will dedicate a space to academic dialogue at the London School of Economics (LSE) where he will talk with the former Minister of Finance and Dean of the School of Public Policy at LSE, Andrés Velasco, and will answer questions from the audience on various topics such as the challenges and opportunities of Chile, the sustainable and digital economy, as well as the implications of a pension reform for national savings and the capital market.
