"After putting public finances in order, we have decided to take charge of the electricity bill for the months of December, January and February, up to 180 KW of consumption will be free," the president announced on national television.
In a national broadcast this morning, Daniel Noboa announced a measure to assume the cost of electricity bills between December and February, up to 180 kilowatts (KW) of consumption.
“After having put public finances in order, we can take care of the electricity bills for households for December, January and February, up to 180 KW of consumption,” said the president. “The bills for those months will be completely free for Ecuadorian families.”
"We will bear that cost, because you deserve a break, you deserve relief and a government that supports you," Noboa added.
In June, the government ordered a one-time 50% reduction in electricity as compensation for the power outages that occurred in the country from April 16 this year and lasted until the end of that same month.
The Government of Ecuador declared a state of emergency in the electricity sector on August 15, 2024, after which Noboa instructed the Ministry of Energy and Mines to coordinate and execute all necessary actions with Cenace and the energy generation, transmission and distribution companies to avoid the effects that the drought may produce. In addition, he instructed the Ministry of Economy and Finance to allocate sufficient budgetary resources to address the above.
