The elements that weigh in on this assessment are the reform of the Judicial Branch and the United States elections. It would be the worst employment figure of AMLO's six-year term, without considering the pandemic, says the IMSS.

Employers' expectations for the final quarter of the year, although positive, are lower than last year.

The net employment trend, according to the Employment Expectations Survey, is 30% for the months of October, November and December, which is six percentage points lower than those recorded in 2023 in the same period, and two percentage points lower than the previous quarter.

This was announced at a press conference by Alberto Alesi, General Director of ManpowerGroup for Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America, who explained that there is caution on the part of employers regarding issues such as the discussion of the reform of the Judicial Branch and the electoral process that is taking place in the United States, both aspects that keep investments on hold .

Although he described the employment results of this administration as positive, he said that "we could have done better," since issues such as informality, which has not been countered, still need to be addressed.

Alesi highlighted that given the hiring expectations for this year, at the national level, the forecast for the end of 2024 will be between 400 and 450 thousand jobs; a figure that is lower than that recorded in 2023, when 651,490 jobs were added.

According to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), if up to 450,000 jobs are created, it would be the second lowest figure of this six-year period, without considering the pandemic, since in 2022, 752,748 jobs were created and in 2021, it exceeded 800 thousand jobs.

For this fourth quarter of the year, the most positive employment expectations in the country are recorded in the Northeast and Northwest regions," said Alberto Alesi,

The detail of the different Mexican regions reported the Northeast with 41%, the Northwest with 34% and then Mexico City with 32%. Below are the Center with 27%, the North, West and Southeast all with 22%.

Meanwhile, the sectors that lead employment expectations in Mexico for this quarter are, firstly, Communication Services, with 40%, followed by Consumer Goods and Services, with 38%, as well as Information Technologies, followed by the Life Sciences and Health sector + with 33%.

The rest of the sectors report the following: Manufacturing 30%, Transportation, Logistics and Automotive 30%, Finance and Real Estate 22%, Energy 19% and Others 17%.

The best expectations for the end of the year are in the sectors of Communication, Consumer Goods and Services and Information Technology," said Alberto Alesi.
