The Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes, met with his Chinese counterpart in Shanghai.

Peruvian Minister of Transport and Communications Raúl Pérez Reyes met with his Chinese counterpart Li Xiaopeng in Shanghai, where he highlighted Peru's commitment to creating a framework for cooperation between the two countries and Chinese technology companies.

In addition, the need to move towards digital connectivity and digitalisation in future projects between the two countries to strengthen economic and technological exchange was addressed.

During the meeting, it was reported that a mechanism has been created with the Chinese embassy in Peru that will allow any incident involving companies from that country to be resolved through dialogue and friendly solutions.

Both ministers also raised the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between China and Peru, which will serve as a practical guide to deepen the bilateral relationship. This agreement will not only strengthen trade, but will also allow for progress in joint infrastructure projects in transportation, communications and the implementation of new technologies.

Likewise, the upcoming inauguration of the Chancay Port Terminal was highlighted as an important milestone in bilateral relations. Minister Pérez Reyes invited the Chinese Minister of Transport and the president of the Cosco Shipping company to participate in the inauguration ceremony.

In addition, the importance of developing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Peru was highlighted at the meeting, learning from China's experience in advanced technology applied in its cities.

Pérez Reyes confirmed the Peruvian government's interest in adapting these solutions to local reality to improve the safety and efficiency of transport in the country.

Minister Li Xiaopeng said that efforts will be made to allow Chinese aircraft to arrive in Peru, in response to the request of the Peruvian minister. This initiative would open a new door in trade and transport relations between both nations, connecting Peru with more international destinations.

Pérez Reyes is in the People's Republic of China participating in the “Digital Economic Forum: Connectivity and digitalization of the industry” held in the city of Shanghai.

During his first day of participation, he outlined the measures that the Peruvian Government has been implementing to accelerate digital economic development. The head of the MTC highlighted the solid commercial relationship between Peru and the Asian country, stressed the importance of connectivity as a facilitator and support for various digital activities, and highlighted the challenges of connectivity in Peru.

As part of his visit to the country, Minister Pérez Reyes will also visit Shanghai Unicom Schneider's 5G smart factory and hold a meeting on the use of 5G in industrial production.
