Nearly 23 million passengers passed through airports in the Andean country.
Between January and July 2024, the flow of passengers at Peru's airports reached 22.96 million, 17.9% more than the figure recorded in the same period in 2023, when they reached 19.48 million, reported the Supervisory Body for Investment in Public Use Transport Infrastructure (Ositrán).
Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJC), under concession to Lima Airport Partners (LAP), experienced significant growth with 13.75 million passengers (59.9% of total passenger traffic), followed by the First Group of Provincial Airports, managed by Aeropuertos de Perú (AdP), with 4.28 million (18.6%) and by the Second Group of Provincial Airports, under concession to Aeropuertos Andinos de Perú (AAP), with 2.3 million (10%).
Regarding the figures recorded by CORPAC, Ositrán indicates that, during the first seven months of the year, more than 2.6 million passengers passed through the airports under its administration, which is equivalent to 11.4% of the total passenger flow recorded.
Furthermore, it is specified that, of the passengers mobilized, 17.3 million (75.4%) represent the national flow, 4.88 million (21.3%) the international flow and 765,465 (3.3%) the transit passengers.
The busiest airports were Jorge Chávez International Airport (13.75 million), Cusco Airport (2.27 million), Arequipa Airport (1.27 million) and the airports of Tarapoto (673,466) and Piura (625,338).
Regarding cargo movement, between January and July, 134,792 metric tons (MT) were reached, a variation of -0.59% compared to the same period in 2023.
In addition, 258,335 landing and takeoff movements were carried out, which meant an increase in operations of 10.22%, compared to the 234,374 achieved in 2023.
This increase was mainly recorded at the Jorge Chávez International Airport (106,893), the Captain FAP Renán Elías Olivera Airport in Pisco (37,677) and the María Reiche Neuman Airport in Nazca (18,742).
Despite the increase in passenger flow recorded in recent years, the pre-pandemic figure (2019) has not yet been reached, when 38.5 million people passed through national airports, according to Ositrán.
