The Argentine president praised Beijing, despite the fact that throughout the electoral campaign, the leader of the far-right La Libertad Avanza party said that he would not maintain relations with countries such as China or Brazil because they are "communist."

Argentine President Javier Milei confirmed that he will travel to China in January 2025, during an interview on the program of the South American country's television diva Susana Giménez, broadcast last Sunday, September 29.

The ultra-liberal president, who received the 80-year-old actress and businesswoman at the Casa Rosada (headquarters of the Executive) last Thursday for the recording of this conversation, said that he will participate in the meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in the Asian country in January.

Although the leader of La Libertad Avanza (far-right) stated throughout the election campaign that he would not maintain relations with countries such as China or Brazil because they are "communist", after almost 10 months of management he changed his speech about the Asian giant.

"We had a meeting with the ambassador (Wang Wei), and the next day they unblocked the swap ," Milei said during his conversation with Giménez, referring to the rescheduling, last June, of the payments corresponding to an activated portion of the currency swap that both nations maintain.

The politician described China as a "very interesting trading partner" because "they don't demand anything" and added: "The only thing they ask is not to be bothered." He also confirmed that he will travel to China for a CELAC meeting in January.

A few days ago, within the framework of the UN General Assembly, the Foreign Ministers of China and Argentina, Wang Yi and Diana Mondino, respectively, met in New York, where they expressed their willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation with special emphasis on the economic and commercial sphere.

Wang stressed that his country maintains "continuity and stability" in its policies towards Argentina, as well as the "solid" foundations of its practical cooperation and the complementarity of their economies.

According to the official statement issued by Beijing, Mondino said that his country values the Chinese market and welcomed the idea that companies from the Asian giant invest and do business in Argentina.

Since coming to power on December 10, 2023, Milei has aligned himself on foreign policy matters with the United States, Israel, the European Union and the "free world" against "pacts with communists."
