The Ministry of Labor and Social Security (STPS) called the groups to a meeting this week to complete the presentation of the proposal, which should be ready this month.
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, established in her 59th commitment to promote a reform to the Federal Labor Law (LFT) to provide social security to workers through a digital platform, so the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) began meetings with workers in this sector in order to advance the content of the proposal.
The agency headed by Marath Bolaños called this week the groups of digital platform workers to a meeting to present the proposal, which should be ready this month.
“Commitments 59. This month we will submit the bill to guarantee the mandatory social security for workers who deliver telephone applications,” the president said on October 1.
It should be noted that this Monday the collective “Repartidores Unidos de México” demonstrated in the Parque de la Bombilla, on Avenida de la Paz, colonia Chimalistac, to demand to be heard and taken into account as a community of workers on digital platforms, as well as improvements in their working conditions.
Meanwhile, the National Union of App Workers (UNTA) reported that they agree with reforming the law, but that it should be comprehensive, meaning that the proposal should include all workers who found employment in apps, whether as delivery people or drivers.
“It all starts with the recognition of the employment relationship and a lot of rights arise from that”; for this reason, on August 25, 2022, they delivered a decalogue called “Minimum Floor Manifesto” with 10 basic points among which is the definition of digital platform workers in three categories: temporary, half salary and full salary.
In contrast, there is another group called Ni un repartidor menos, which opposes subordination, as they believe that it would end the flexibility that this type of employment gives them.
In a demonstration on Tuesday, they called on the Ministry of Labor to inform them about the content of the proposal that is about to be sent to Congress, and stressed that for them only social security is important, without being traditional employees.
