In the area of green industries and digitalisation, and not just in mining, agriculture or fishing.
In the midst of an international scenario complicated by trade and geopolitical tensions, Peru emerges as a proactive country that seeks to promote consensus among APEC member economies, said the president of the Peruvian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (Capechi), José Tam Pérez.
“By hosting this important forum this year, there is an opportunity to strengthen trade relations with the participating countries, but in particular to attract investments,” he noted in Capechi trade magazine, special report: APEC 2024.
He said that the participation of the Chinese delegation that will accompany President Xi Jinping at the Leaders' Summit in November is especially important. This visit will coincide with the inauguration of the first stage of the Chancay megaport, a project that would position the country as a logistics hub in the region.
"To take full advantage of this infrastructure's potential, it is urgent to accelerate the construction and modernization of access roads that will allow the megaport to be connected to different regions," he said.
He added that as a medium and long-term task, decisions must be made to move forward with projects that help generate efficiency in logistics costs, such as the construction of trains that connect the entire country and other South American countries.
“By consolidating the bilateral relationship with China, Peru has the opportunity to position itself not only as a supplier of mineral, agricultural or fishing products, but also of products with higher added value, integrating itself into “green industries” and those linked to digitalization,” he said.
“With copper, that step could be taken. Likewise, our country can take advantage of the technological development of the Asian giant to incorporate new tools such as those provided by artificial intelligence,” he said.
China is called upon to promote its massification through the incorporation of AI in smartphones, among other instruments, he mentioned.
