The purchase of energy from Colombia would be a reality, said the acting Minister of Energy and Mines of Ecuador, Inés Manzano, on Tuesday, November 12.
The official indicated that the first contract has already been obtained through a private company from the neighboring country.
The minister participated in the IV edition of the ESG & Sustainability Forum, organized by the Ecuadorian-British Chamber, in Quito, where as part of her statements she said: "Fasten your seatbelts, because there are shocks."
Regarding the contract with Colombia, he did not offer further details so as not to “give false hopes,” according to Teleamazonas .
On the Punto de Vista program on TC Television on Sunday, November 10, Minister Manzano indicated that Ecopetrol's marketing agent will sell 170 megawatts (MW) at the end of November. "Those 100 MW are from a thermoelectric plant and 70 from Ecopetrol," the official added.
Although last week, on Friday, November 8, on Ecuavisa , Manzano indicated that a total of 195 MW would be delivered by the end of this week. In the space he detailed that initially he was going to deliver 70 MW, then 100 MW, but that the day before, on Thursday, November 7, they were given the good news that they will increase by 25 MW, thus adding 195 MW.
The minister explained that the marketing agent has two representatives: Ecopetrol, which will offer 70 MW, and Termocentro, 125 MW. “And it is supposed to enter next week (this week) because they are doing the tests, which are (of) three days,” she specified.
Manzano also indicated that, although Ecuador already has regulations for the purchasing process, Colombia must also carry out a similar process.
The Government of Ecuador, as part of the actions to execute the purchase of energy in the neighboring country, appointed former Minister of Government Arturo Félix Wong as counselor at the Embassy of Ecuador in Colombia on Monday, November 11.
Following the Colombian government's refusal to resume energy sales, Ecuador has sought out private companies.
