Yesterday it was revealed that the Colombian Government is considering reactivating the sale of energy, once the Ministry of Mines and Energy published the draft resolution which speaks of “reactivating electricity exports and modifies Resolution 40410 of 2024 which adopts transitional measures to guarantee national demand.”

The Ecuadorian government has turned to Colombia to obtain energy and deal with the power cuts of up to twelve hours that are currently being recorded nationwide. According to the acting Minister of Energy and Mines, Inés Manzano: “We hope to soon have thermal energy from a private Colombian company.”

The minister's statements were made on Wednesday, November 13, in response to energy experts who see as good news that the Colombian government is reviewing the draft resolution of the Ministry of Mines and Energy to resume electricity exports.

In her response, the minister previously said: “Do not doubt that I am committed to giving energy to Ecuador. Today is the citizen consultation.”

Yesterday it was revealed that the Colombian Government is considering reactivating the sale of energy, once the Ministry of Mines and Energy of the neighboring country published the draft resolution in which it speaks of “reactivating electricity exports and modifying Resolution 40410 of 2024 that adopts transitional measures to guarantee national demand.”

The Ecuadorian government has been betting on obtaining energy from Colombia since late October, when Minister Manzano traveled to that country to meet with her counterpart, Andrés Camacho. However, at that time there was no favorable response and the sale would be resumed “as long as conditions improve.”

Following the Colombian government's refusal to resume exports, Ecuador continued its search for bidders through Colombian private companies; the minister even met with one of the bidders, which is publicly known to be I+D Energy, a company based in Medellín and founded in 2016.

Minister Manzano also met with the mayor of Medellín, Francisco Gutiérrez. “We spoke with the Minister of Energy and Mines of Ecuador, @inesmanzano, about the experience of @EPMestamosahi in energy generation and its commitment to the country's energy sovereignty” (sic), Gutiérrez said on November 5.

As part of the Ecuadorian regime's strategies, at the beginning of this week it delegated former Government Minister Arturo Félix Wong to execute the purchase of electricity. “The climate emergency has made energy our first priority. For this reason, I have made the decision to send Arturo Félix Wong as a Government delegate to Colombia, with the purpose of executing the purchase of energy for Ecuador,” said the president in X, without providing further details.
