The administration will aim for a budget gap equivalent to 3.9% of GDP in 2025, less than the 5.9% estimated for this year, according to the proposal that Finance Secretary Rogelio Ramírez de la O has brought to Congress.

The Mexican government has assured this Friday that it will reduce the fiscal deficit, as stated in the Economic Package for 2026 that it presented to Congress this Friday.

The administration will aim for a budget gap equivalent to 3.9% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025, less than the 5.9% estimated for this year, according to the proposal that Finance Secretary Rogelio Ramírez de la O has brought to Congress.

Mexico's budget includes a number of infrastructure projects, with the expansion of the country's rail system a priority.

The Treasury sees the Mexican economy growing between 2% and 3% next year. That estimate is higher than that of the central bank, which in August cut its GDP forecast for 2025 to 1.2%. The government also expects public debt to reach 51.4% of GDP in 2025 and tax revenues to reach 14.6% of GDP.

Before today, Ramírez de la O had said that the 2024 deficit, which is the largest since the 1980s, will not be repeated. This year's spending increased due to infrastructure projects during López Obrador's final months in office, and does not represent a recurring expense.
