Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motors (GWM) expects to open its production plant in Iracemápolis, Brazil, in 2025, with an initial investment of 10 billion Brazilian reals (US$ 1.721 billion) and the creation of 700 direct jobs, in addition to bringing new technologies to the country.

This was announced by the company's president, Parker Shi, to the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, during a meeting in Brasilia, during which the Chinese businessman invited the Brazilian leader to the upcoming inauguration.

The GWM executive, who is visiting Brazil for the first time, has reaffirmed the company's interest in expanding its participation in the Brazilian automotive market, particularly in electric and hybrid vehicles (electric and combustion, including ethanol).

He also highlighted the significant technological contribution planned and the group's intention to create a research and development centre in Brazil.

Initial production at the Iracemapolis plant is expected to be 30,000 to 45,000 vehicles per year and should be substantially expanded. Shi also reported the company's interest in supplying other Latin American markets with production in Brazil, which should begin in three years.

Among Brazil's positive points, the businessman highlighted the excellence of its workers and the structure of the Brazilian automotive industry and the stability of the business environment, which were decisive factors in the decision to invest in the country.
