The Venezuelan government reaffirmed its commitment to "the 'one China' principle" and expressed its "support for the main initiatives" proposed by Beijing.
China and Venezuela reaffirmed their commitment to "strengthen bilateral cooperation" during a meeting between the vice presidents of both countries, Han Zheng and Delcy Rodríguez, held in the Chinese capital on Thursday.
Han stressed that both nations are "good friends who trust each other" and assured that they will work together to "implement the consensus reached" by their presidents, the state agency Xinhua reported today.
He also reiterated China's support for Venezuela's fundamental interests, stressing the importance of "defending the common interests of developing countries."
Delcy Rodríguez, for her part, reaffirmed Venezuela's commitment to "the principle of 'one China'" and expressed its "support for the main initiatives" proposed by Beijing.
He also said that Venezuela is seeking to "learn from the successful governance experience" of the Asian giant and "strengthen both bilateral cooperation and multilateral coordination."
"We reject illegal unilateral sanctions (...) and will continue to work for international equity and justice," he added.
The meeting cements a strategic partnership described today by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian as "all-weather and all-tough."
