Between January and September of this year, foreign currency inflows from tourism reached US$ 7,444 million, equivalent to 83% of the total for 2023.
Tourism in Colombia remains one of the main sources of income for the coffee-growing country, and the figures for 2024 confirm its upward trend.
Between January and September of this year, the inflow of foreign currency reached US$ 7,444 million, equivalent to 83% of the total for 2023, when US$ 8,939 million was recorded.
Currently, tourism represents 58% of the total foreign currency generated in the service sector.
Furthermore, compared to the same period last year, the increase in the flow of foreign currency from tourism was 14%, as reported by the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (ANATO).
According to Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO, this is due to factors such as greater promotion of tourist destinations, investment in infrastructure in key regions, which has allowed us to receive more visitors safely and comfortably, better air connectivity, with new routes and direct flights to and from Colombia, and a focus on responsible tourism, which has made Colombia an attractive destination for visitors looking for authentic and environmentally conscious experiences.
Another positive indicator is the growth in average spending per trip, which rose from US$1,247 in 2023 to US$1,338 in 2024, an increase of 7%.
This reflects a greater interest among visitors to invest in unique and high-quality experiences during their stay in Colombia.
“We are on track to close a record year in terms of foreign currency inflows, but there is still much to do. We need to strengthen the tourism offering in our regions and ensure that the visitor experience is unique and unforgettable,” concluded Paula Cortés Calle.
