The Ministry of Labor will set the amount of remuneration until December 20.
Employers and workers have not reached an agreement to define the unified basic salary (UBS) for 2025 in Ecuador. The Government, through the Ministry of Labor, will set the amount of the basic remuneration that will be in effect from January 1.
Representatives of business associations and trade unions met on the afternoon of Thursday, December 12, at the second session of the National Council of Labor and Salaries (CNTS), which was chaired by the Minister of Labor, Ivonne Núñez. At the meeting, proposals for salary increases were presented and discussed.
The unions raised two values. On the one hand, the United Workers Front (FUT) ratified an increase of US$ 102, while the Federation of Public and Private Workers (FTPP) also reaffirmed its position of US$ 25.
Both positions take into account macroeconomic indicators related to the value of the basic basket, inflation, economic growth, among others.
The employers only offered one wage increase of US$4. The amount is the result of applying a formula that takes into account the productivity index, among other variables.
Currently, the basic salary is US$460. In 2023, the Ministry of Labor also set the value and applied an increase of US$10.
Minister Ivonne Núñez said that the Government will determine the value of the salary that will come into effect on January 1, 2025 by December 20.
