The largest number of tourists visiting Peru are residents of Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia.
Peru received more than 2.9 million international tourists until November, which represents a growth of 31.6% compared to the same period in 2023 and a recovery of 74.2% compared to what was recorded in the same pre-pandemic months of 2019.
This is according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, which specifies that the tourist attractions most visited by foreign tourists are located in the Cusco region.
These include the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, with 981,666 visitors; the Archaeological Park of Ollantaytambo, with 495,462; the Esplanade of Sacsayhuamán, with 439,139; the Archaeological Complex of Moray, with 393,988; and the Archaeological Park of Pisaq, with 327,877.
The largest number of tourists visiting Peru are residents of Chile (644,953), USA (546,571), Ecuador (270,900), Brazil (170,664), Bolivia (167,799), Colombia (153,504), Spain (125,433), Argentina (107,634), Mexico (95,473), France (72,212), Canada (67,273), Germany (56,418), United Kingdom (54,210), Italy (51,097).
Also noteworthy is the presence of tourists from the Netherlands (25,918), Australia (24,382), Switzerland (15,922), Poland (12,460), Belgium (11,640) and India (9,947), among others.
In terms of regional blocks, South America accounted for 51.7% of the total number of tourists arriving in Peru, which corresponds to more than 1.5 million international tourists.
For its part, North America accounted for 23.8% (709,317), Europe 16.8% (498,828), Asia 3.9% (116,753) and Central America 2.7% (80,546).
Similarly, the report shows that the number of visitors from the Dominican Republic (+43.1%), Guatemala (+34.5%), Poland (+20.9%), Costa Rica (+16.3%) and India (+14.7%) exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
In this sense, in the period January-November 2024, 11,868 Dominicans, 9,992 Guatemalans, 12,460 Poles, 22,207 Costa Ricans and 9,947 Indians arrived in the country.
On the other hand, it is important to highlight that, compared to 2023, on those dates there was a notable increase in tourists from Asian countries such as China (+84.9%), Japan (+96%) and South Korea (+61.4%).
According to the aforementioned report from the ministry, 34,611 Chinese, 19,294 Japanese and 16,473 Koreans arrived in the country during that period.
