The country has said it will "immediately" withdraw its personnel from Paraguay in retaliation for recent statements by Paraguayan President Santiago Peña.
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry announced on Monday the breaking of diplomatic relations with Paraguay and stated that it will "immediately" withdraw its personnel from the Latin American country in retaliation for recent statements by Paraguayan President Santiago Peña.
"It is regrettable that governments such as Paraguay's continue to subordinate their foreign policy to the interests of foreign powers, promoting agendas aimed at undermining democratic principles and the will of free peoples," the statement said.
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry has detailed that Peña has ignored international law and the "principle of non-intervention." "He is repeating a failed practice that is reminiscent of the political fantasies of the extinct Lima Group with its ridiculous adventure called Guaidó," it said.
Caracas has also reiterated "its commitment to defending democracy, peace and the self-determination of peoples," which are "essential principles" of the United Nations Charter, while pointing out that "no buffoonery" of "international fascism" will succeed in "bending the will of a people that is firm in building its own destiny."
