The model belongs to the Toyota brand and is promoted as an alternative that reduces CO2 emissions through the use of a nickel battery.
As the market for electrified vehicles continues to grow in Peru, one model is consolidating as the preferred model for Peruvian consumers.
The Corolla Cross hybrid electric (HEV) led the electrified market as of December, according to information from the Peruvian Automotive Association (AAP).
This model achieved a share of almost 12% in the electrified segment by December, with the sale of 811 units.
“Since its launch, the Corolla Cross HEV has been very well received by Peruvian drivers, demonstrating a clear preference for practical, accessible and sustainable technologies,” said Stephanie Guerra, Corporate Affairs Specialist at Toyota Peru.
By the end of 2024, 45% of Toyota's hybrid electric vehicles will be Corolla Crosses, making them a key pillar of the brand's carbon neutrality strategy.
The Corolla Cross hybrid electric car stands out for integrating the fourth generation of the Toyota hybrid system, which translates into efficient performance and lower environmental impact.
This model incorporates a Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery, with a nominal voltage of 202 volts and a capacity of 6.5 Ah.
This battery allows the energy generated during regenerative braking to be stored, optimising the vehicle's energy efficiency.
Thanks to this technology, this model contributes to reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 88.7 gCO2eq/km, which represents a reduction of up to 30% compared to its gasoline version. In addition, the Corolla Cross HEV offers significant fuel savings.
“Hybrid electric technology provides you with the energy you need every time you brake. It recharges itself efficiently. In addition, preventive maintenance is the same or cheaper than the gasoline version because the engines alternate, so they are used less frequently and therefore, wear less.” added Luis Flores, Assistant Product Manager at Toyota Peru.
To maximize efficiency, it is recommended that the driver moderate the use of the accelerator, avoiding pressing the pedal fully except in situations where it is required, such as overtaking or rapid speed changes.
