For the first time, the number of international tourists who came to visit a Mexican attraction in 2019 was exceeded (prior to the   COVID-19 pandemic) by 0.3%, this segment includes inbound tourists and border tourists.

Tourism resilience. Without a federal international promotion strategy, during 2024 Mexico captured a record figure of 32,956.3 million dollars in tourist foreign currency, 7.4% more than last year, and received 45,038,754 international tourists, which represented an increase of 7.4% compared to the previous year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Another good result for the sector was that, for the first time, the number of international tourists who came to visit a Mexican attraction in 2019 was exceeded (prior to the   Covid-19 pandemic) by 0.3%, this segment includes inbound tourists and border tourists.

After the institute published the results of the International Traveler Survey, this morning the federal Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez, shared on her social networks her arrival in Tabasco as part of a work tour and her satisfaction with the results of tourism activity last year, in which she participated for the last three months, after the change of administration.

"Today, the Inegi data came out and we exceeded expectations: 45 million tourists, 7% more than in 2023, as well as an increase of almost 8% in economic impact," he said in a video.

The increase in international tourist arrivals was motivated by a good December that marked the beginning of the winter season for visitors from the United States and Canada, the two main tourist-sending markets to Mexico.

In the same month, foreign currency earnings from total spending by foreign visitors amounted to 3,702.4 million dollars: 9.0% more than in the same month a year earlier, while spending by international tourists reached 3,423.3 million dollars. Of this amount, 94.8% came from inbound tourists and 5.2% from border tourists.

“In December 2024, nine million 022,213 visitors entered the country, 14.7% more than in the same month in 2023. Of this number, four million 789,432 (53.1%) were international tourists — travelers residing abroad who stayed overnight in Mexico. The number was 4.3% higher than in the same month a year earlier,” it was detailed.
