Likewise, during the first month of 2025, Argentina was the main issuer (870,318 visitors, an increase of 92% compared to last year).

Brazil recorded almost 1.5 million international visitors in January, a growth of 55.07% compared to the same month in 2024, according to figures from Embratur (Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion).

During the first month of the year, Argentina was the main source of tourists (870,318 visitors, an increase of 92% compared to last year).

He also highlighted the significant increase in Chilean visitors, which in January totalled 103,620 tourists, an increase of 34% compared to the same month in 2024.

According to Embratur, in the last two years, economic activities directly linked to tourism, such as hotels and travel agencies, generated 283,642 formal jobs.

Tourism represents 8% of Brazil's GDP and generates more than 8 million direct and indirect jobs throughout the country.

As for the scenario for 2025, it is expected to be "extremely positive", with major events being planned in the country "that should further increase the visibility" of these tourist destinations and, consequently, the influx of visitors.

In July, the country will host the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, and in November the UN Climate Conference, COP 30, in Belém, Pará. "These events are unique opportunities to consolidate the country's image as a sustainable tourist destination of international relevance," said Embratur President Marcelo Freixo.

"No country in the world has seen such a rise in tourist arrivals. It is 55% more than last year, which was already a record. The Government, through Embratur, the states and municipalities, and cooperation with the private sector are focused on international tourism as a priority for the development of the country, which has allowed for the expansion of air connectivity, which is also a record," Freixo stressed.

In this regard, he highlighted Brazil's strategy of promoting itself in a more intelligent way and with strategic partnerships to attract tourists from all over the world, with the aim of becoming a more competitive country.

ENTRY BY LAND

In January, 54% of tourists arriving in Brazil chose land transportation to enter the country, with 802,611 entries recorded.

Air transport ranked second with 608,163 arrivals, while sea arrivals totaled 72,895 entries.

For his part, Tourism Minister Celso Sabino said that this is "an excellent starting point" for Brazil to surpass the figures for 2024.

"Brazil stands out as one of the main tourist destinations in South America. We have had an exceptional start to the year, thanks to the efforts of the Government and the sector to promote our country abroad, improve tourism infrastructure and facilitate access to travellers. We continue to work to ensure that this trend continues to boost the economy and generate new opportunities for Brazilians," he stressed.
