The Mexican government announced that the Home Depot company will invest more than 1.3 billion dollars in Mexico between 2025 and 2028, with the aim of strengthening its presence in the country and increasing its national supply content.
“Today we are going to announce a very special investment for us. Home Depot generates more than 18,000 jobs and with this new investment, 2,000 direct jobs and more than 10,000 indirect jobs will be generated,” said Ximena Escobedo Juárez, head of the Productive Development Unit and Head of the Office of the Secretary of the Ministry of Economy.
He also stressed that this investment is in line with the objectives of the Mexico Plan, promoted by the federal government to strengthen the country's industrial development.
The official said that currently, 85% of the products sold at Home Depot Mexico come from national suppliers, and with this capital injection, the company will seek to reach 100% national content by 2028.
For his part, José Antonio Rodríguez Garza, president and general director of Home Depot Mexico, highlighted that this investment will allow the opening of five stores per year, with the goal of reaching 165 establishments in the national territory.
The company also seeks to continue consolidating itself as the "product authority" in the sector, offering a catalogue of almost 50,000 items and prioritising national supply.
"85% of our products come from Mexican suppliers. With this new investment, we aim to have 100% of our supply come from Mexico by 2028," said the executive. He also stressed that the company will not only strengthen its physical presence, but also its digital strategy. "Currently, our website receives 250 million visits annually and is the sixth most visited retail site in Mexico," he said.
In terms of sustainability, Home Depot reported that almost half of its stores already operate with renewable energy and that it will continue to expand its catalog of ecological products, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint. The company also reaffirmed its social commitment through its volunteer program, which has carried out more than 8,000 days in Mexico.
