The discussion of the Reform had as protagonists, on behalf of the Government, the Minister of Labor, Jeannette Jara, and the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel.

The pension reform was approved by the Constitutional Court (TC). With this, the bill that modifies the Chilean pension system is about to be published in the Official Gazette.

After being voted on in Congress and being approved, the initiative was submitted to the Constitutional Court, so that the body could rule on its constitutionality.

In this regard, in its ruling on the preventive control review, the Court confirmed the reform's adherence to the Constitution.

Pension reform bypasses the Constitutional Court and is on the verge of being enacted

In this regard, Minister Jara stated that “this bill, which had been waiting for so long, had to undergo this examination, which was very important for its future viability and today we have this good news with which we start the week.”

He stressed that the Constitutional Court had also rejected the appeal filed by parliamentarians, declaring it inadmissible.

On the other hand, Minister Marcel pointed out the imminent “challenge of implementing the reform, which is our priority. For this reason, we will redouble our efforts with the Ministry of Labor and the Superintendency of Pensions to implement the social benefits contemplated in the reform, within the established deadlines.”

According to the Government, with the publication of the pension reform in the Official Gazette, the different dates of its application begin to run, such as the gradual increase of the PGU, the payment of benefits for each year of contributions and compensation to women for life expectancy.
