It's worth noting that Argentina has already settled its debt with Paraguay for energy transfers, with a recent payment of US$23 million, which will be added to previous disbursements totaling US$126 million.

The Argentine government is preparing to sign a decree that will finalize the operational agreement for the Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY), which will establish the payment amounts and terms for the National Electricity Administration (ANDE) of Paraguay and the Wholesale Electricity Market Management Company (Cammesa) of Argentina, according to reports.

Almost a month has passed since the Paraguayan executive director of Yacyretá, Luis Benítez, announced that the agreement between EBY, the Paraguayan ANDE, and Cammesa, Argentina, could be signed "next week."

The truth is that so far, there is no official news regarding the formalization of this agreement.

Rumors circulate in the halls of the binational entity's headquarters that the signing of the agreement could take place today.

However, official sources indicate that the Argentines want to issue a decree on the pact first.

It's worth remembering that the document will have a one-year trial period, which will apply an annual payment schedule of US$30 million.

According to Luis Benítez, Paraguayan executive director of EBY, the measure will allow Argentina to progressively reduce its debt with the binational entity, with the goal of fully repaying it by 2027.

YACYRETÁ: ARGENTINA HAS ALREADY PAID OFF ITS DEBT WITH PARAGUAY

The announcement comes amid progress in Argentina's fulfillment of its financial obligations.

The latter country has already settled its debt with Paraguay for energy transfers, with a recent payment of US$23 million, which will be added to previous disbursements totaling US$126 million.

However, a US$50 million debt from energy sales remains, which they hope to settle with the implementation of the new agreement.

One of the most important points of the agreement is the intention to establish a single amount for Argentina and Paraguay, with payments from both Cammesa and ANDE.

According to Benítez, this will ensure the necessary financial flow to cover banking commitments and strengthen Yacyretá's presence in the four Paraguayan departments it serves.

Furthermore, compliance with these financial commitments responds to requirements from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), within the framework of the negotiation of a loan requested by Argentina.

The signing of the agreement would represent a step forward in the hydroelectric company's financial stability and in bilateral relations between the two countries.
