"I hope we can convince Japan of the advantages Brazil offers for negotiations," the South American leader emphasized.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met this Tuesday with Brazilian business leaders linked to the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec) to discuss the possibilities of further opening the sector to the Japanese market, as part of the president's official visit to Japan.

"I hope we can convince Japan of the advantages Brazil offers for the negotiation," Lula emphasized to the Abiec representatives, reminding them that trade flows between Brazil and Japan still have great potential for growth, reaching the record levels of 2011.

The mission seeks to expand business with Japan in strategic sectors, such as aeronautics and those related to the energy transition.

Thus, Lula has announced that he will speak with Japanese authorities to encourage Japan to use 10% ethanol in gasoline, which will represent an extraordinary advance, not only for Brazilian exports, but also for Japanese production in Brazil.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, the objective of the meeting with Abiec was to advance the opening of the market with Japan, primarily for Brazilian beef.

"Our industries are prepared to comply with the health and trade requirements established by Japan. We will work to ensure that this important market is established and opened. This will guarantee greater competitiveness for our entrepreneurs and help Brazilian meat consolidate its position globally and become more competitive in the domestic market," he emphasized.

Fávaro noted that in the last two years, Brazil has opened 344 new markets around the world for Brazilian agricultural products, and that this work continues. Another Brazilian differential highlighted by Carlos Fávaro is the work to prevent the spread of avian flu.

"Avian flu has swept across every continent, and Brazil is one of the few countries without it, guaranteeing the supply of nearly 40% of the world's chicken meat, with quality, safety, and competitive prices," he commented.

For his part, Transport Minister Renan Filho has pointed out that one of the key factors in expanding Brazil's export capacity lies in strengthening its logistics infrastructure.
