Furthermore, the president has opened the possibility of imposing reciprocal tariffs on American products imported by the South American giant.

Brazil will appeal to the World Trade Organization (WTO) over U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on Brazilian steel.

"We are going to appeal," Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said Thursday, while on an official trip to Japan, where he is seeking to expand bilateral trade with the country.

Furthermore, the president has opened the possibility of imposing reciprocal tariffs on American products imported by Brazil, which is the second option Brazil is currently considering in the current tariff war scenario.

"It means putting the law of reciprocity into practice. We can't just stand by, thinking that only they are right and that only they can impose taxes on a product," Lula warned.

According to the Brazilian president, Trump's decision to impose tariffs on everything the United States imports is detrimental to the country. "It will raise the prices of goods and could cause inflation that hasn't yet been realized. Protectionism doesn't help any country in the world," Lula said Thursday at a press conference in Tokyo.

"I don't know how he'll react if this happens, but he has economic advisors and the right to make his own decisions, but he needs to consider their consequences and impact," he reflected.
