According to the Chilean company, the decision is a response to economic challenges and a lack of necessary financing.
The car rental company Awto announced that it will close its operations in both Chile and Brazil.
In an email sent to its users, the platform announced that "after much effort and analysis, we have made the difficult decision to cease our activities due to economic challenges and a lack of necessary funding."
However, they stated that until April 11, customers will be able to complete current trips and request refunds for unused credits and packages.
"However, vehicles not in transit are already becoming unavailable. Vehicles not in use will soon become unavailable," they stated in the email.
Awto closes its operations in Chile and Brazil
Awto began operations in Santiago in July 2016. Over time, it expanded its presence in the transportation app sector and announced its arrival in Concepción in 2019.
"Almost 10 years ago, we set out to revolutionize mobility in Santiago, Chile. We made the idea of renting a car by the minute, sharing it, expanding intermodality, and easing congestion in the city a reality," the company states in its report to its clients.
Finally, in 2022, it decided to expand beyond the country and add operations in Brazil.
