Lenovo and IDC reveal the state of Artificial Intelligence adoption in Latin America and the Andean country's potential.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming business strategies, and Lenovo and IDC's CIO Playbook 2025 study sheds light on how organizations in the region are advancing its adoption.
Based on a survey of 500 IT and business decision-makers from mid-sized and large companies in Latin America, the report analyzes the advances, challenges, and opportunities in the use of AI.
REGIONAL OVERVIEW OF AI ADOPTION
In Latin America, Argentina leads the way in AI adoption thanks to its hybrid infrastructure and technological talent, although it faces challenges due to economic volatility.
In Brazil, although 68% of organizations have already implemented AI, more than a third are still in the planning phase, reflecting both enthusiasm and caution regarding the implementation challenges.
In Colombia, the use of AI in IT operations, finance, and marketing demonstrates a strategic focus on areas with high potential for impact and rapid return on investment.
On the other hand, Mexico, benefiting from its proximity to US technology markets, has achieved strong adoption, albeit with disparities between large companies and SMEs.
Chile prioritizes quality over quantity in AI adoption, while in Peru, infrastructure gaps and limited technology investment have been obstacles, although the accelerated growth of AI and rising IT spending suggest the country may be in a transition phase toward greater technological adoption.
PERU: A RAPIDLY GROWING MARKET FOR AI INVESTMENT
According to the report, Peru is emerging as one of the countries with the fastest growth in AI investment in Latin America.
Although more than 60% of Peruvian companies are still in the planning phase of AI adoption, AI investment within IT spending is expected to increase 3.9 times over the next 12 months, representing the highest growth in the region.
Furthermore, while interpretive AI remains the most prevalent in Peru, its use is expected to decline, while interest in generative AI is projected to increase, reaching 28% by 2025. However, this is still considerably lower compared to other Latin American countries.
"The adoption of Artificial Intelligence in Latin America is evolving rapidly, and Peru is positioning itself as a leader in terms of investment growth in this technology. Despite the challenges, Peruvian companies are taking important steps toward AI adoption, focusing on data quality, cybersecurity, and governance. At Lenovo, we are committed to providing solutions that enable organizations to fully leverage the potential of AI, driving efficiency, innovation, and digital transformation in the region," said Carlos Ramos, General Manager of Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) for Latin America at Lenovo.
KEY FACTORS FOR THE SUCCESS OF AI IN PERU
Data quality has emerged as a determining factor in the positive results of AI in Peru.
Approximately half of organizations are opting for hybrid solutions for their AI infrastructure, while only 10% have fully adopted cloud-based solutions.
This indicates a measured approach and progressive evaluation of technology.
When choosing strategic partners for their AI initiatives, Peruvian companies prioritize those with deep knowledge and experience in the field, as well as the ability to provide support in AI modeling and development.
Regarding the adoption of AI-powered PCs, the report shows that 60% of Peruvian companies are considering implementing them, while 28% are already in the testing phase, reflecting a growing interest in leveraging the benefits of these solutions.
The Lenovo and IDC study confirms that, although Peru faces infrastructure and cost challenges, investment in AI is gaining momentum.
With the right strategies and a commitment to data quality and security, Peruvian companies could accelerate their digital transformation and establish themselves as key players in Latin America's technological landscape.
