"We continue to have enormous confidence in Mexico as a country and as a market... We are accelerating investment and opening more and more stores," said the multinational's Director of Corporate Affairs.

Walmart Mexico and Central America will accelerate its store opening plan, planning to open an average of one store per day this year, which would represent double the number of openings compared to 2024, said Manolo Reynaud, the retailer's Director of Corporate Affairs.

"We continue to have enormous confidence in Mexico as a country and as a market... We are accelerating investment, and we are opening more and more stores," he said at a recent event.

In previous years, three to four stores were opened per week. With the new investments announced for this year, they will seek to increase the pace of openings, said the Director of Corporate Affairs for Walmart Mexico and Central America, without offering further details on their locations.

Last year, Walmart Mexico and Central America opened 180 new stores in the region. By 2025, the supermarket chain plans to double that number, opening 365 new units.

Previously, the retailer's CEO, Ignacio Caride, announced that the new stores will operate under the Bodega Aurrera, Sam's Club, Walmart Supercenter, and Walmart Express formats.

Manolo Reynaud recalled that on April 2, Walmart de México announced a US$6 billion investment for 2025. The funds will be used to open stores and distribution centers, among other purposes.

"As we see the country, it certainly has its challenges, but it remains a market with enormous opportunities," he added.
