Peru and the United States have agreed to hold short-term technical meetings to address issues of bilateral interest, in the context of the imposition of tariffs on Peruvian exports, which face a 10% tariff.
This was stated at a meeting in Washington by Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Desilú León, and the United States Trade Representative (USTR), Jamieson Greer.
During the meeting, both officials agreed on the strategic value of the trade relationship between Peru and the United States, built on more than 16 years of continuous implementation of the trade agreement between the two countries.
They also reaffirmed their interest in continuing to strengthen this relationship through technical dialogue that will allow them to jointly address the new challenges of global trade.
"The meeting was constructive and reaffirmed both countries' willingness to continue working together to consolidate a modern, dynamic, and mutually beneficial agenda. We discussed issues relevant to our economies and agreed on the need to maintain an open and ongoing technical channel," Minister León stated after the meeting.
On the other hand, the authorities exchanged views on issues of bilateral interest such as security in the logistics chain, the digital economy, trade facilitation, investments in strategic sectors, and infrastructure.
Along these lines, they have identified opportunities to strengthen their collaborative work, agreeing to hold technical meetings in the short term to address these issues.
Peru deeply values this space for frank and technical dialogue and is confident that, through this channel, it will be possible to identify practical and sustainable solutions that strengthen the trade relationship and consolidate the achievements made under the Trade Agreement between the two countries," the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism emphasized.
