The Minister of Transport of the Andean country denies that the resignation is linked to the controversial concession of Chancay port to Chinese consortium Cosco Shipping Ports.
The Minister of Transport and Communications of Peru (MTC), Raúl Pérez Reyes, announced the resignation of the president of the National Port Authority (APN) of the Andean country, Walter Tapia Zanabria.
The decision was made after the MTC's annulment of the operating exclusivity granted to the Chinese consortium Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Perú on the future Chancay Megaport, located 80 km north of Lima.
Despite the coincidence of events, Pérez Reyes denies that Tapia's resignation is linked to the controversial concession. "He has already submitted his letter of resignation, it has nothing to do with this, it is a coincidence due to an issue linked to the manual of internal positions. Some requirements were asked and a poor evaluation was done at the time at the MTC. This was before my administration and what happens there is a problem of nullity. We prefer to resolve this with his resignation. We will appoint the new president in the coming days. The decision has been approved by the Council of Ministers," highlighted the Peruvian Minister of Transport.
Local television channel Latina confirmed that last Friday, March 22, the MTC Public Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit with the Peruvian Judiciary that seeks to annul article 2 of the board agreement that granted Cosco Shipping Ports the "exclusivity of the exploitation of essential services in port infrastructure".
