Mercado Libre to invest US$ 2.45 billion in Mexico this year

Mercado Libre, the e-commerce giant in Latin America, announced US$2.45 billion investments in Mexico during 2024, which will be the company's largest investment in the Aztec nation ever.

The investment will be aimed at to improve company's logistics network, technological innovation, development of priority categories, and marketing and talent.

In 2023, e-commerce sector grew in Mexico at the fastest pace than elswhere the world. The value of e-commerce went to 658,300 million pesos (US$ 39,301 million) last year, that is, 24.6% more than 2022.

Mexico also is the fastest growing market for Mercado Libre, with revenue rising by 51% year-on-year during the fourth quarter of 2023.

During 2023, Mercado Libre reached 144 million active users of its platform in the different markets in which it operates, this is 50% more than the previous year. In addition, 1.4 billion items were sold within its marketplace, a 32% volume growth.

The company has 90 distribution centers in Mexico, which are connected by 900 electric vehicles. Likewise, the financial services application Mercado Pago is the second most downloaded application within the app stores, recording 371 transactions per second.
