The park, which took 19 months to build, will achieve an annual production of 750 GW/h, equivalent to the average annual consumption of 220,000 households.

Spanish energy company Repsol has begun producing electricity at its largest wind farm and one of the largest in Chile, Antofagasta Phase 1, which involved an investment of nearly 400 million euros (US$454 million) and is expected to enter commercial operation in the coming weeks.

Located in the commune of Taltal, it has a total installed capacity of 364 MW and is the first renewable project fully developed by Repsol in Chile, the company announced in a statement on Monday.

The park, which took 19 months to build, will achieve an annual production of 750 GW/h, equivalent to the average annual consumption of 220,000 households.

Also in the Antofagasta region, Repsol plans to build Phase 2, which will add approximately 450 MW to its renewable asset portfolio.

Repsol began operations in Chile through a 50/50 joint venture with Grupo Ibereólica Renovables, with which it operates the 188 MW Cabo Leones III and 166 MW Atacama wind farms, both located in the Huasco province in the Atacama Desert.

The company currently has nearly 4,000 MW of renewable energy in operation and a global project portfolio of 60,000 MW in various stages of development.
