The US president announced this in a post on the social media platform Truth Social. "China will realize that the days of defrauding the US and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable," he said.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Wednesday a 90-day pause in the implementation of the tariffs imposed on April 2 for all countries that have begun negotiations to address their trade disputes and their temporary replacement with a 10% tariff. He also announced an increase in tariffs for China to 125%.

"Over 75 countries have called on representatives of the United States [...] to negotiate a solution to the issues under discussion regarding trade [...]. For nations that, at my suggestion, have not retaliated in any way against the United States, I have authorized a 90-day pause and a significantly reduced reciprocal tariff during this period of 10%," Trump said in a post on the social network Truth Social.

In the same publication, the president raised tariffs on the Asian giant to 125%, accusing it of "disrespecting the markets," after Beijing decided to respond to the implementation of Washington's additional "reciprocal" tariffs by raising tariffs on US goods to 84%.

"Based on the disrespect China has shown to global markets, I hereby raise the tariff levied on China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately. At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S. and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable," he added.

For his part, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in a press conference that "with this decision, we are adding certainty to an unstable moment," and reaffirmed that the United States is "absolutely willing" to negotiate with each of the 75 countries that have expressed their willingness to engage in dialogue with the U.S. administration.

Regarding the Asian giant, Bessent warned that "if China continues to increase tariffs on ours, the country that will be most affected will be theirs," he emphasized.
