The U.S. Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, has asserted that Trump has been "clear" that there is no room for waivers, understanding that this "Swiss cheese" strategy would undermine the intended reciprocity of the tariffs.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer assured this Tuesday that no "exemptions or exceptions" are contemplated in the short term to the implementation of the tariffs adopted by President Donald Trump.

According to his testimony before the Senate Finance Committee, the president has already been "clear" that there is no room for waivers, as it is understood that this "Swiss cheese" strategy would undermine the intended reciprocity of the taxes.

Greer also acknowledged that there is no concrete timeline for trade negotiations with other countries, although he reported that nearly 50 countries, including Argentina, Vietnam, Israel, and India, have already contacted him personally to reduce the tariffs imposed on them by the White House.

The high representative also criticized China, accusing it of not seeking "reciprocity" with the world's leading power.

"China has been charting its own course on market access for many years. They decided to announce retaliation, other countries didn't. Other nations have indicated they would like to find a path toward reciprocity. China hasn't said so, and we'll see where that leads," he said.

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced this morning that he expects major agreements to be reached "very soon" with countries like Vietnam and Japan, which maintain trade surpluses with Washington.
