The suspension will be at least until December 2024.

The airline Aeroméxico decided to temporarily suspend its flights in Ecuador.

This Mexican company, which has flights between Mexico City and Quito, will stop flying to the Ecuadorian capital from July 1.

The suspension will be at least until December 2024.

Aeroméxico adopts this decision weeks after the conflict between Mexico and Ecuador over the raid on the Mexican embassy.

Following that decision, the Mexican government withdrew its diplomatic staff and ceased its attention to the embassy and the procedures.

With this, the procedures to obtain appointments for Mexican visas were suspended, a requirement that is required of Ecuadorians to enter that country.

Hundreds of Ecuadorians were left with appointments scheduled for these months, since before the conflict the embassy had opened appointments for the months of April, May and June 2024.

That month, the embassy made around 6,000 regular appointments available to Mexican visa applicants.

Aeroméxico currently has flights four times a week. Before, it had daily flights due to the high demand from Ecuadorians traveling to that country.

Last year, 54,651 Ecuadorians traveled to Mexico, according to data from the Ecuadorian Ministry of the Interior. 41,977 travelers said it was for tourism reasons.

More than 37,000 Ecuadorians left from the Quito airport and more than 16,000 from the Guayaquil air terminal.
