Demonstrating investors' lucrative interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), chipmaker Nvidia became the most valuable company in the world on Tuesday, surpassing the $3.3 trillion mark.

The firm surpassed Apple and Microsoft in stock market valuation, after its shares rose 3.4%, reports the specialized media Bloomberg .

Previously known for its graphics cards for computers and especially gamers, Nvidia has become the de facto infrastructure provider for AI development companies, which require tremendous computing power.

The great demand for its H100 accelerators allowed the firm to increase its sales by 125% last year.

“They are not just selling chips, they are selling systems,” said Baron Capital vice president of equity portfolios, Michael Lippert, referring to the company's proprietary software and its ecosystem for artificial intelligence.

And its development has been exponential. This year alone, Nvidia shares have risen more than 160%, adding more than $2 trillion to its capitalization.

“Nvidia's graphics processing chips (GPU) are, in essence, the new gold or oil of the technology sector, as more companies and consumers follow the route of artificial intelligence as part of the 4th industrial revolution,” says the analyst at Wedbush Securities, Daniel Ives.

It should be noted that the fight between the three giants has become hotter than ever. Only this Monday, Apple had regained first place by surpassing Nvidia and Microsoft, which had fallen to US$3.2 trillion in capitalization.

Further down, they are followed by Alphabet (Google) with US$2.2 trillion, and Amazon with US$1.9 trillion.

“We believe that next year's race will be between Nvidia, Apple and Microsoft to surpass the US$ 4 trillion mark,” Ives said.
